As you may know I'm putting another program together for those looking to continue there progress in Ninjutsu. And, while this could be for anyone, it's really designed for those in the intermediate to advanced levels of progress (depending on which ranking system we're looking at). But...
...that's not the focus of today's lesson,
which is focused on the "why" I teach the way I do and why I contend that if you're focused on modern self-defense... you have to walk a two-way street. (I know, weird analogy, but it serves it's purpose!).
Here's what I mean.
I have been training in this art since 1980, and have used in as-is, on the street. And, what gave me the advantage wasn't changing it to make it look like what every other fighter is doing... nor did I drop the
traditional because, according to so many others: "Ninjutsu doesn't work for modern self-defense."
Yeah... okay.
And while this is NOT 16th century Japan, and assailants don't throw the same kind of attacks or use the same kinds of weapons (usually!) in today's world... I have learned that there are additional skill sets needed to deal with "what things look like now."
What I've discovered over the past 4
decades of applying Ninjutsu in the real world is NOT the need to create a MODERN Ninjutsu, but rather...
...understand the art - the principles and concepts that make it work - so deeply that you understand how to use the TRADITIONAL techniques against the modern attacker, and in a modern context. Like the need to be able to:
Adapt to a speed fighter
Neutralize
a street fighter/boxer's jab
Move quickly in what "look" like slow postures (without coming up!)
Connect with an assailant so you can beat him to the punch
Use the same body movement, kamae, and footwork skills to be just as prepared for a punch as you are a knife attack
Keep your defense
within the average 2-10 second rule of street self-defense (not sport fighting contests!)
End an assault FAST (as in, 4 moves or less, FAST!)
...and more!
I have personally used this art and its techniques to both deescalate and confuse attackers with the psychological warfare tactics, and drop assailants bigger and
faster than me with a musha dori, and many other techniques that the "bullshido" guys claim won't work in a "real" fight.
And, I have had more than my fair share of students who have successfully survived attacks - all the way from simple (if there is such a thing) all the way to armed assaults - by using the same understanding.
On top of that, I and several of my peers have actually taken time away
from Ninjutsu-only training to work with really good practitioners of other arts to try to get this art to break. And, while we made plenty of mistakes, what we found wasn't that the art that was wrong... but our ability to MATCH the techniques and skills - the strategies and tactics - the kamae, etc. - to the assailant and his own fight style!
And THAT's the secret for all the
do-it-yourselfers trying to figure this out on their own. All the one's who, regardless of the programs or lessons available to help them shorten the learning curve, get where they want (and need) to be faster, and learn more powerful and unconventional approaches and options they'll never come up with in this lifetime...
...are going to do anyway!
Either way...
The
program isn't available yet, regardless of whether you're one of my students waiting for the next module in your Mastery series or an intermediate-to-advanced student looking to be able to use traditional Ninjutsu in today's world, but... I do have a favor to ask of you, which will really help me make sure this program is the best it can be for those looking for this level of training...
I'd like to
ask you a question, and that is...
I would like to know: "What are your burning questions about using the skills and techniques within Ninjutsu for modern self-defense? (And the questions better not be about whether Ninjutsu actually works in a real fight!)
Which techniques are you concerned about not working? What types of attacks are you most concerned about, because you've only
learned how to defend against a "classical" attack in training?
Which fight styles or weapons, if you were faced with them, are you most worried about at this point in your training?
That's it. Just hit "Reply" and fill in your answers under the respective question above and then his send to get them to me. I appreciate any and all assistance in helping me to get this level of training out to
those who need and WANT it.
I look forward to training with you again soon!
Ninpo-Ikkan!

PS - If you
haven't grabbed it yet, I discuss more about the errors in training that keep serious students from taking their skills from the dojo and making sure that their street-ready in my book: "3 Massive Mistakes..."Download it here while I'm still offering it as a gift.
