That was the topic of much of my session today with my "Inner Circle" Friday Coaching Group, and based on a question posed by one of my long-distance students.
Well... it was kind of part question and part statement.
To keep things short, and because I thought this was a REALLY good question and topic, I actually replace what I was going to teach on and run with this one.
In fact, I realized that this was SUCH an important topic, and how everyone needed to here it... that I decided to give away the class recording.

To give you the short version, my student said they weren't really worried about rank, and know that a lot of students are and that "want" or "need" can actually get in the way of what they should be paying attention to.
I answer this, as well as discuss some issues that technique-oriented (rather than principle-focused) students can have.
I also discuss what these principles, and the control they give a student in higher and higher levels of training... IF they're focused on that... and not just getting that next number attached to their black belt.
